Have you ever wondered if there are dragons, dwarves, and elves? Then you should read The Hobbit. The Hobbit is about a big-footed character named Bilbo Baggins. In this book, Bilbo embarks on a perilous journey as a burglar, accompanied by a group of thirteen dwarves led by Thorin, the mighty King of the Dwarves. As they travel to find the dwarves’ long-lost treasure, they encounter ogres and Gollum, a terrifying monster-like creature from whom Bilbo gets, or rather steals, the “One Ring.” They also talk with elves, are followed by the dreaded Nazguls, and band together to defeat the terrifying dragon Smaug. I can’t tell you the ending because it would ruin the surprise. However, if you are interested in this, you should check it out at your local library. Read J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit. The moral of the story is to have faith in your teammates and to work together. That way, everything will be fine.
The dwarves in The Hobbit are funny because they all have similar names and are constantly drinking ale and confusing Bilbo. The Nazguls are terrifying because they are mysterious and act as silent assassins. The Hobbit was very similar to Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Lord of the Rings is a sequel to The Hobbit.
J.R.R. Tolkien’s style, in my opinion, is very simple. J.R.R. Tolkien writes in a mysterious, yet thrilling style that draws the reader into a web of excitement. His story has a clear explanation for everything, but the book can be confusing at times, considering that it is a book of magic and mystery. J.R.R. Tolkien illustrates his books in addition to writing them. His illustrations are beautiful, original, and extremely detailed. This is a book I would recommend to good readers who enjoy fantasy and magic. I recommend it for students in the fifth to eighth grades.
