There were two old poor grannies-Lucy and Grumphy. Both of them were very, very old and did not have many friends. Grumphy was dirty with yellow teeth and crooked legs and she couldn’t walk properly. She had a cane to help her walk. She became grumpy when someone called her old, crooked legs. Lucy was clean and pretty, not bad tempered at all. Both of them lived together in a small cottage in a village in Holland. They milked the cows to drink milk and both of them were really sick of drinking cow milk all day long.
One day, Lucy said to Grumphy, “what do you think of the moon?”
Grumphy replied, “eh…….the toon????””
“No! No!, I said the moon.” Yelled Lucy.
“Oh! The moon…..huh…..don’t like it because its white like the cows milk….yuck, yuck!!!!!!!!!” said Grumphy.
“But I have heard that the moon has many sweet things for us to eat like the ice cream, juices, candies, sweets, cakes and party food. You can eat all you want because no one lives there. We can live there forever” Lucy said with a glint in her eyes…
“Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh……….stuff to eat…..yippy… Take me to the moon!!!!!! Exclaimed Grumphy and started to jump with her crooked legs. She fell twice and bumped her back.
“But we need a rocket. How will we get one?” Lucy said sadly.
“Let’s build one. I have glue and scissors and some stuff in the shed. Come let’s go and build a rocket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! said Grumphy excitedly.
Both Lucy and Grumphy went to the shed and started building their rocket. It took them many days to build a creeky rocket with the help of tins and cans . Finally they were ready to fly.
WHOOOSHHHHHHH……………………………………….UP , UP AND AWAY WENT THEIR ROCKET.
The grannies were so happy they started dancing in the rocket. They travelled many days and finally reached the moon……
They stepped off the rocket and found the moon very slippery with no candies and sweets. They saw an old woman spinning some wool on the moon.
What are you doing here? Said the old woman.
We came to eat candies on the moon. Said Grumphy.
But I ate all the candies….none left. Even I am hungry…wept the old woman.
But who are you?
I was a small girl when I flew to the moon to eat ice cream, sweets and candies. I have been alone on the moon for a long time ……….can you help me?
The grannies felt very sad but they didn’t know what to do because their rocket was broken and they couldn’t go back either. Suddenly Lucy remembered that she had a rope in her backpack.
She pulled it out, and lowered the rope….down, down and down until it reached the earth.
All three old women came down the moon slowly. When they reached home , they drank a lot of milk and lived happily ever after.
