Escape From Mr Lemoncello’s Library
Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, the first book in the Mr. Lemoncello series, is a novel about a seventh-grade student named Kyle Keeley who learns about an essay-writing contest, the prize for the twelve winners being that they will be the first ones inside Mr. Lemoncello’s new library, which has been kept completely secret up until now. He thinks he sent in his essay too late, but he is chosen as one of the winners. The morning after the lock-in for which he won the right to attend, the winners are told that there will be a competition to see who can find the secret exit from the library first. Will he be able to escape first? Find out by reading the book!
I enjoyed this book a lot, in part because of the puzzles and games scattered throughout, as well as the strange details thrown in. Mr. Lemoncello makes several references to other book titles throughout his speech. The book inspired me to create my own games based on the ones in it. I liked the author’s fun and humorous tone. Throughout the book, Mr. Lemoncello imparts several life lessons. For example, he tells Kyle that it’s never over until it’s over after realizing that he hadn’t been too late to enter the essay contest. As the book itself states, Mr. Lemoncello bears some resemblance to Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
I would recommend this d book, as well as the rest of the series, to anyone aged 8 to 9, so that they can fully appreciate it. It will be enjoyed by those who love games, adventure, and a good dose of strangeness.
