Argentina Are the World Cup Champions!

The Amir, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, declared Argentina the winner of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar after their 4-2 victory on penalties over France in the final match on Sunday evening at the Lusail Stadium.

HH the Amir and FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented the gold medals to the Argentine national team players. HH the Amir, HE President of France Emmanuel Macron, and Infantino presented silver medals to the French national team, the championship runners-up.

His Highness also presented Argentina’s Lionel Messi with the World Cup best player award.

HH Personal Representative of HH the Amir Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani attended the final match and the coronation ceremony.

A number of Their Majesties, Excellencies, heads of state and heads of delegations from sisterly and friendly states, Their Excellencies Sheikhs, ministers, heads of Olympic committees and federations, Their Excellencies heads of diplomatic missions accredited to the state, senior sports officials, and a large audience of fans were also present.

Argentina are now the reigning World Cup champions, since their last win in 1986 with star player Diego Maradona leading their country to victory.

The dramatic title clash provided a magnificent finish to Qatar 2022, which was hailed as the best ever edition of the World Cup – the first to be hosted in the Middle East and Arab world – with 88,966 spectators attending the match at the iconic venue and billions watching on TV.

It was a night to remember for all football fans around the world, who witnessed the culmination of Qatar’s flawless World Cup hosting.

Despite being the most compact World Cup in modern history, Qatar successfully staged 29 days of thrilling action and entertainment. There were no inappropriate incidents reported during the 64 matches played at eight state-of-the-art stadiums that were packed throughout the games, with more than 3.4 million tickets sold for the global tournament.

Throughout the tournament, Qatar welcomed over 1.4 million fans and received praise from competing players from 32 teams, their coaches, officials, and fans for its excellent organization, hospitality, and world-class facilities.

Congratulations to Argentina for their World Cup victory and their star player Lionel Messi for this amazing achievement and receiving the Man of the Match award! It was a memorable experience for all.

Another congratulations to France for winning second place for the World Cup and performing amazingly, and to their forward Kylian Mbappé for winning the Golden Boot and being the first man to score a hat-trick (3 goals in a row from 1 player) in a World Cup since 1966!
